Vision, strategy and common sense, in the same room.
My first serious job came when I was 22, off the back of a 10 day silent retreat. I was talking to another participant, who had just retired as a senior partner at a big four consulting firm. He was launching a startup consultancy focused on decision-making and leadership in a data-driven world. I immediately asked if I could work for him. After an interview at the Royal Festival Hall bar, I worked for him for several years, first as a core team member growing the company and developing its products, then as an independent advisor and researcher.
At the same time I was interviewing anyone I could get hold of who was thinking deeply about society, technology and how the world is changing. Through that work I formed a close, ongoing friendship with a multi-platinum record producer and philosopher, who taught me a lot about how culture works.
Since then I've been part of several projects at the intersection of business, leadership and culture, which you can find in Selected work. I'm fascinated by what it takes to get things off the ground. The team I've built thrives in complex, even chaotic situations.
If that sounds like where your project is right now, start with 90 minutes.
